About Kno2

Kno2 is the nation’s largest healthcare communication network and a federally designated Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) under TEFCA. Through a single Communication API, Kno2 connects electronic health records (EHRs), clinical systems, data, and workflows to the entire healthcare ecosystem.

Kno2 supports every form of clinical information exchange, from fax to FHIR, so organizations of any size can communicate and share patient information securely without managing multiple integrations.

Kno2 connects healthcare organizations to our private network, every major national and regional network, platform, and EHR through one Communication API. Instead of building separate integrations for fax, Direct Secure Messaging, Carequality, QHIN/TEFCA, CMS Aligned Networks, HIE connectivity, FHIR, and more, partners integrate once and gain access to all of them.

This lets EHRs, health IT vendors, providers, and payers send, receive, and find clinical information across the healthcare ecosystem while Kno2 handles the underlying connectivity.

Kno2’s mission is to democratize healthcare communication for every provider, from the smallest practice to the largest health system. Democratization means simple, easy, and affordable access to the network for everyone.

It also means partnering with organizations and technology to reach providers of all types, delivering care in any setting.

Kno2 serves the entire healthcare ecosystem, providers, payers, patients, and health IT vendors. The network is purpose-built for providers, with a focus on connecting EHRs, clinical systems, data, and workflows through the Communication API.

Because Kno2 aggregates providers, including those historically difficult to reach, payers and patients benefit by connecting to the same Communication API to access providers everywhere.

Networks, Standards & Interoperability

Unlike most networks and HIEs that offer only one or two ways to communicate, Kno2 provides access to all forms of clinical information exchange, from fax to FHIR, behind a single Communication API.

Kno2 also operates the largest network of providers across the full continuum of care, including post-acute, behavioral health, dental, vision, EMS, and small independent physician practices, enabling connectivity to the entire healthcare continuum through one API.

A Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) is an organization federally designated under TEFCA to securely exchange health information across a nationwide network of participants. QHINs act as the connectivity backbone that links networks, providers, and health systems.

Kno2 is among the first organizations to receive federal QHIN designation under TEFCA. QHIN services are available through Kno2’s Communication API, which provides comprehensive, on-demand access to clinical information from TEFCA, Carequality, and Kno2’s private network.

TEFCA, the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, is a federally supported framework that establishes a common set of standards for securely exchanging patient health information across networks nationwide.

Kno2 is a federally designated QHIN under TEFCA and, through its longstanding relationship with the ONC (formerly ASTP), helped shape TEFCA’s technical requirements. TEFCA exchange is available through the Kno2 Communication API.

A CMS Aligned Network is a health information network that commits to standards and initiatives defined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to advance nationwide interoperability.

In 2025, Kno2 was among the original networks to pledge to the CMS Aligned Networks initiative. As the ecosystem evolves, Kno2 continues to build out these capabilities and make them available through its Communication API.

Direct Secure Messaging (often called “Direct”) is a national standard for securely sending protected health information between healthcare participants, much like encrypted email for clinical data.

Kno2 supports Direct Secure Messaging alongside fax, HIE connections, Carequality, QHIN/TEFCA, CMS Aligned Networks, FHIR APIs, and HL7 v2, all through a single connection.

The Kno2 Communication API is a single integration point that connects partners to every form of clinical information exchange across healthcare. Its Send, Receive, and Find routes let organizations exchange clinical information across the entire ecosystem from one connection.

Once connected, partners are enabled for all supported communication methods without building to each connection type individually.

Integration & EHR Compatibility

Yes. Kno2 is designed to plug into any EHR or health IT platform through its Communication API and its Communication Portal, Kno2fy. Organizations can support communication without replacing the systems they already rely on.

The goal is to make clinical information exchange easier to manage within existing workflows.

No. That is the core advantage of Kno2’s Communication API and its Send, Receive, and Find routes. Once you are connected, you are enabled for all communication and clinical information exchange across the ecosystem, you do not need to build to each connection type.

Kno2 handles the heavy lift of connectivity so partners can focus on Kno2 Connected workflows and the best user experience in their own product.

Partners integrate once to the Kno2 Communication API using its Send, Receive, and Find routes, and from that single connection are enabled across every supported network and exchange method.

Organizations that prefer a ready-to-use option can use Kno2fy, Kno2’s communication portal, to support exchange without a custom build. As standards evolve, Kno2 maintains the connectivity so partners stay future-proofed.

Security & Compliance

Yes. Kno2’s network is built to support the HIPAA-compliant exchange of protected health information. As a federally designated QHIN, Kno2 adheres to the highest security and privacy requirements in healthcare, and it is also R2 HITRUST certified.
Yes. As the nation’s largest healthcare communication network and a federally designated QHIN, Kno2 holds to the highest level of security and privacy requirements, including R2 HITRUST certification, which it maintains annually.

Fax & the Move Beyond It

Kno2 meets the industry and its partners where they are by supporting every form of clinical information exchange, from fax to FHIR, behind a single Communication API.

By integrating once, any partner can enable all forms of communication and clinical information exchange. As the industry evolves, Kno2 Connected partners maintain seamless connectivity and stay future-proofed for wherever communication standards go next.

Pricing

For most partners, Kno2 offers aggressive, flat-rate pricing that provides access to the Kno2 network and the broader healthcare ecosystem under a single monthly or annual subscription.

Kno2 helps healthcare organizations replace disconnected workflows with a more reliable way to exchange information across systems, partners, and care settings.
