BOISE, Idaho—June 22, 2016—Kno2, the company that optimizes patient document exchange for everyone in healthcare, today announced its entrance into the referrals management space through its partnership with SCI Solutions, the health industry’s leading patient access and care coordination software firm. Kno2’s cloud-based patient document exchange platform will be adding capability to SCI’s existing infrastructure, allowing referring providers to submit referrals via Direct and ultimately attesting to Meaningful Use Stage 2.
Kno2’s document exchange platform, which captures and exchanges documents from virtually any source, will complement SCI’s fax infrastructure, which currently brokers millions of pages of faxed documents each month.
“Our referrals management solution streamlines the referrals process for our hospital clients—but due to varying levels of technology adoption in the ambulatory environment, much of this referral activity still occurs via fax,” explained Bill Reid, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy and Chief Information Security Officer at SCI Solutions. “We believe that many of our referring providers have certified EHRs, thus the benefit of SCI adding Direct messaging as an alternative to fax brings value to our customers. Our partnership with Kno2 makes document exchange easy and affordable. Providers on the platform can seamlessly exchange clinical documents electronically. This partnership equips our clients to succeed as the industry moves from fee-for-service to fee-for-value reimbursement.”
Referring providers exchanging patient documents via Direct will not only be able to attest to Meaningful Use but also will provide SCI with interoperable content that makes the referral transaction more meaningful.
“Fax is expensive, inefficient and most definitely not interoperable,” said Jon Elwell, CEO of Kno2. “Kno2 is excited about our partnership with SCI Solutions as we help them improve care coordination by offering Direct as an alternative to fax, resulting in better, more actionable content.”
Kno2’s engagement with SCI Solutions will proceed in two phases. In phase 1, Kno2 and SCI will help providers who already have EMRs capable of exchanging information using the federal government’s Direct messaging protocols to achieve ONC Health IT Certification.
In phase 2, for clients who are still paper-based, do not have a Direct-enabled EMR, or have an MU2 certified EHR with limited capabilities, SCI will have the ability to set these clients up with a Kno2 endpoint, accessible via a web portal. This will enable patient information necessary for inbound referrals to be sent with Direct messaging.
