A returning industry leader who helped shape TEFCA, Carequality, and national interoperability policy will now architect the governance and strategy of healthcare’s largest private communication network

BOISE, Idaho — April 3, 2026 — Kno2, the nation’s leading full-stack healthcare communication network and federally designated Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) and CMS Aligned Network, today announced the appointment of Alan Swenson as Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President of Network Strategy, effective immediately.

Swenson returns to Kno2 after serving as both Executive Director of Carequality and the Technical and Operations Lead for the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) Recognized Coordinating Entity (RCE) as a Vice President at The Sequoia Project. He has played a central role in advancing TEFCA and Carequality, the frameworks that underpin national health information exchange.

“Alan isn’t joining this conversation. He helped start it,” said Therasa Bell, President and Founder of Kno2. “He spent years at the national level defining how healthcare data should move. Now he’s coming back to elevate our network that proves it can. The question we wake up asking every day is: What does it mean to be a healthcare network? Alan is the person who can answer that and operationalize it at scale.”

In this newly created role, Swenson will serve as a strategic extension of the President and Founder, leading the design and execution of the Kno2 Network’s governance model, operating structure, national policy alignment, and market expansion strategy. His mandate spans network governance and participation standards, alignment with TEFCA, Carequality, and CMS initiatives, product and engineering integration, and the continued expansion of Kno2 into historically underserved markets — including post-acute, therapies, EMS, behavioral health, vision, and most recently dental.

“Kno2 isn’t waiting for someone else to define what a national healthcare network looks and operates like. They’re building it,” said Swenson. “I’ve spent my career working across the standards bodies, federal initiatives, and industry coalitions that set the rules of the road. Now I get to put that experience to work inside the network that connects it all, from fax to FHIR, from the largest health systems to the smallest provider offices. That’s what drew me back.”

Swenson’s appointment comes during a period of accelerating momentum for Kno2, which processes billions of transactions annually and is connecting approximately 180,000 additional provider organizations over the next 12 months.
